Malek’s second century helps Yogi extend winning streak

Dubai: Yogi Group’s Naveed Malek hit yet another century in the Interface Ramadan Cup, being held at the ICC Global Cricket Academy.

Malek, fresh from his knock of 105 runs against Transgulf in their last match, hit 107 against Emirates Islamic Bank. His knock contained eight fours and five sixes and came off just 67 balls.

Run machine Shaiman Butt Anwar may have got yet another century but fell for 74 after hitting two sixes and seven fours.

Butt and Malek helped Yogi Group post an impressive 209 for 3. Emirates Islamic Bank was restricted to 113 for 9 with Malek sparkling with the ball too, taking two wickets with Usman Malvi.

Fly Emirates, who had a terrible outing in this tournament, finished their league games with their only win. They restricted HSBC to 90, mainly due to splendid spells from Usman Mushtaq (4 for 19) and UAE skipper Khurram Khan’s (3 for 9).

The Dulsco Ramadan tournament has reached the quarter-final stage with Uniforge Bhatkal Cricket Club qualifying for the quarterfinal. They will meet Carfare today at the Zabeel Park. In the other quarter-final clashes, IKAT Brothers will meet Jashanmal National Co, while ADCC will take on Active IT Distribution and Dubai Municipality will meet Wings XI.

Bhatktal raced to the quarter-finals on Azeem Mohammad’s unbeaten century, which helped them record an easy 222-run victory over National Pest Control (NPC). Two century partnerships for the first and second wickets saw Bhatkal pile up 265 for 2 and restrict NPC for 43 runs.
